In a statement released on Thursday and shared on its Instagram page, the NFVCB reminded offenders that publicly promoting same-s*x relationships in Nigeria is a criminal offence.

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has strongly warned filmmakers and content creators against producing, promoting, distributing, or streaming prohibited and unapproved content, especially same-s*x content, on social media platforms.
In a statement released on Thursday and shared on its Instagram page, the NFVCB reminded offenders that publicly promoting same-s*x relationships in Nigeria is a criminal offence.
The Board also emphasised that it is illegal to distribute or exhibit any film or video content, including skits and music videos, on any platform without first obtaining classification from the National Film and Video Censors Board.
The statement partly reads: “The attention of the National Film and Video Censors Board has been drawn to the activities of some unscrupulous ‘Filmmakers/Content creators’ who are clearly flouting the provisions of the country’s law with impunity by the production, promotion, distribution and streaming of prohibited and unapproved contents especially same-s*x content on social media Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter) and other online platforms.
“Filmmakers/Content Creators should be reminded that it is an offence to directly or indirectly make public show (Exhibition) of same-s*x relationship in Nigeria.”
“It is also an offence to distribute or exhibit any Film or Video content including skits and musical videos on any platform without recourse to the National Film and Video Censors Board for classification,” it noted.
The board “therefore wishes to state categorically that we are working with relevant security agencies to track the individuals and production companies involved, and will stop at nothing to make sure they face the full wrath of the law”.
