FELLOW NIGERIANS, CASE CLOSED: BEHOLD PRESIDENT BOLA TINUBU

Any doubts about where the international community stands on INEC and Tinubu should have disappeared by now. NewsBand reported as follows:

“Few hours after he was sworn in as the 16th President of Nigeria, several countries formally presented their goodwill messages and letters of support and solidarity to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“The letters were presented to the president by the special envoys and heads of missions of the countries after his inauguration as the 16th President of Nigeria.

“While congratulating President Tinubu, the new UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, presented letters from British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, King Charles and Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.

“The US delegation led by Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Marcia L. Fudge, paid a courtesy call on President Tinubu and had a brief bilateral discussion with him.

“Also, the South Korean delegation had bilateral discussions with Tinubu.

“While delivering a letter of invitation from South Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol for Tinubu to visit their country soon, the delegation also sought sustained relations between the two countries.

“The Saudi Arabian delegation delivered a goodwill message from the Saudi Royal House to the Nigerian president.

“A special envoy of the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida equally paid a call on President Tinubu and extended a hand of support and fellowship.”

Those of you familiar with public international law will understand the meaning of “recognition of a government”. The world has recognized Tinubu as the President of Nigeria.

I recall in 2008, in a meeting between Ashiwaju and me in his study at his Bourdilon residence, he told me he would like to meet Barack Obama. It was an ambition then. Today, Barack Obama will be glad to meet him. That’s life. It is full of twists.

The international community has recognized him as the President and Head of the Nigerian State. And they are eager to deal with him as the leader of Nigeria. Now, you can understand what I meant when I told you that once sworn in as the President of the country, the courts would be incapable of removing him. And those who hoped the international community would do anything about it now know that is not how the world works.

Back to the drawing board. I hope the 2027 elections will be as electrifying as this last one. I will never forgot how Peter Obi changed everything we know about politics in Nigeria. I will never forget the image of ordinary people chanting LP 76, LP 77, LP 78, Obi 79, kerere nke…”. Unforgettable!
