A chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has ruled out the possibility of former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso aligning with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Galadima insisted that the NNPP, not the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), would play the decisive role in determining Nigeria’s next president.
“We are the people who will determine who will be the President of Nigeria in 2027,” Galadima declared, dismissing speculations of any political alliance between Kwankwaso and Tinubu.
He accused the Tinubu administration of undermining both Kwankwaso and the NNPP in Kano by supporting the reinstated Emir, Aminu Ado-Bayero, despite his removal by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP.
“How can Kwankwaso be friends with the APC after what they are doing to us in Kano? Appointing two emirs in one town, backing one with federal security while the state recognises another? Is it the duty of the Federal Government to appoint and pay emirs?” he asked.
Galadima further criticised the heavy deployment of security operatives to guard Emir Bayero, alleging that police resources in the state were being misused while residents faced insecurity in other communities.
He argued that the Federal Government was using the police and courts to destabilise the emirate for political advantage ahead of 2027.
“Was it not Tinubu who canvassed for Sanusi to become emir? Let him deny it, and I will provide instances,” he added, referring to the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as emir in May 2024 by Governor Yusuf.
According to him, the Federal Government’s backing of Bayero is purely political, with the expectation that he could help the APC consolidate support in Kano during the next election cycle.
Galadima stressed that Kwankwaso had not discussed any move to support Tinubu or the APC.
“Let anybody come out and say Kwankwaso has agreed to join the APC. If such talks happened, I would know. He is the strongest political iroko in this country today because he dared the APC and defeated them in Kano,” he said.
