It was at the Christmas party of 2022 organized by the Fort Bend County Democratic Party Chairwoman, Cynthia Ginyard, in Sugarland that Senator John Whitmire and I first talked about the endemic prostitution problem on Bissonent Axis in District J.
One thing people need to realize is that real public servants don’t just sit to enjoy dinners and drink at parties. They discuss public policy issues and problems that need fixing. They carry these problems with them to dinners.
So when John and I had the opportunity to talk over Christmas dinner, it was about the prostitution problem on bissonnent that has become problematic for the bussineses over there that we dwelt on. The question John asked me was….”Kay..if I am going home on highway 59 and I get to Bissonent, is it Bissonent on the right or Bissonent on the left?” I said Bissonent on the left from 59 to Beltway 8. All these areas have been taken over by women parading themselves almost half naked with some men going after them in their cars to pick them up. It has become a big problem for many businesses over there owned by many African Americans and many African Immigrant families.
After 9 pm, on his way home that night, John and his assistant, Rashad Cove, drove down to Bissonent and went straight down to the area described to him. They spent up to one hour there looking at this prostitution problem. John made phone calls immediately right there on the spot to authorities in charge of that area.
The next time, John went back there, he didn’t go alone. This time he went with the Houston Police Chief Troy Finner’s. John and Chief Finners drove around that area discussing practical solutions and strategies to tackle this decade old problem.
Folks, I am happy to report to you that the prostitution problem in that area has decreased dramatically or totally disappeared. Lots of people are telling us they don’t see the women on the street there anymore. My friend, Councilman Edwards Pollard also confirmed this in the news report released recently. Edward Pollard and I have also talked about this problem in the past and the efforts they are making to stop it. So all their efforts is paying off.
Leadership is everything. John Whitmire has led in the Texas Senate for more than four decades, solving one problem after another. Many candidates running for mayor are decent and good public servants, but the man who is known to be a great problem solver by everyone and ready to hit the ground running on day one is John Whitmire.
Houston, let’s all get John Whitmire to the City Hall come November 2023. He is the man we need for Houstons complex problems at this particular time. Go and register to vote if you are not already registered and get ready to cast your vote for this great leader and a problem solver, John Whitmire.
